Frere Roland Saumur

Frere Roland Saumur, known as Mr. Cross Country in Timmins and beyond! Frere Saumur was a teacher-coach at Académie Don Bosco, Collège Sacré-Coeur and École Secondaire Catholique Thériault for 44 years.

He is the founder and first cross-country coach at Thériault. He helped guide those athletes to many team and individual championships, locally, regionally and provincially. This includes 8 provincial individual medals as well as 34 team medals, including 8 gold.

He was also actively involved in track and field at the school and Legion levels. In the ‘60s and ‘70s, he was also a leader in the high school basketball ranks, winning one provincial championship.

He continues to be involved in the cross-country scene. A true coach, builder and mentor to so many
